Prabhupada Nectar
That is the sublime philosophy of Krishna Consciousness understanding; implicit faith in Krishna and Spiritual Master. This will make your steady progress towards the Ultimate Goal of back to Home, back to Godhead

Letter to Uddhava -- Los Angeles 27 February, 1969

February 27, 1969

My Dear Uddhava,

Please accept my blessings. I am in due receipt of your letter dated February 25, 1969, and I thank you so much for it. Regarding the pictures in Back To Godhead which you are learning to photograph, they will be of all kinds. When possible we will have nice paintings published, and other times there will be photographs of our devotees and their activities.

Krishna will surely give you all facilities and encouragement if you work for Him very sincerely because everything belongs to Krishna. It does not take Him even a second to offer anything we desire provided such thing is engaged in the service of the Lord. So you simply desire to serve Krishna best and there will be no scarcity of anything. Know it certain from me. I think that you may inform Nara Narayana that he can go immediately to New Vrindaban for construction work if he has no business in New York.

I can see from your photographs that you are preparing such big Iskcon Bullets. It is very attractive, and unfortunately I cannot share them with you. But I am very satisfied that you are enjoying such thing as the prasadam of Jagannatha Swami.

I thank you very much for your simple philosophy of following the instructions of your Spiritual Master. That is the sublime philosophy of Krishna Consciousness understanding; implicit faith in Krishna and Spiritual Master. This will make your steady progress towards the Ultimate Goal of back to Home, back to Godhead.

Thanking you again for your nice letter. I hope this will meet you in good health.

Your ever well-wisher,

A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami

Principles & Practices / Diksa-guru Projects

By Praghosa Das

In 2006 the international GBC held a series of strategic planning sessions. One of the purposes of those meetings was to put down in writing the standards and principles Srila Prabhupada envisioned for various aspects of ISKCON. Such GBC statements are intended to be a gift to future generations, like time capsules containing messages of guidance for future generations of ISKCON devotees. Two of such position papers have been completed and approved by the GBC. These are “Harmonizing Lines of Authority” and “Carrying out Srila Prabhupada’s order” (which outlines the history and purpos...

Calm the hungry and angry heart
Calm the hungry and angry heart

By Purushottam Kumar

Material attachment weakens our heart whilst spiritual affection strengthens it. Most of our material desires remain unfulfilled. And if somehow some gets fulfilled then soon we find that it does not give us same pleasure as we had expected and soon we get bored. This is why great minds in the past and holy scriptures have always spoken about the futility of material cravings. Then why to waste our invaluable life running after worldly things? Instead let us take a bold decision, step out from the material mindset and look towards Krishna.

Is forgiveness practical?
Is forgiveness practical?

By Chaitanya Charan das

Forgiveness involves our cultivating virtue independent of the other person, whereas trust is our reciprocation conditional to that person’s cultivating virtue. By carefully understanding the difference between the two, we can transform unfortunate episodes in our relationships into spiritual growth opportunities at least for ourselves – and possibly even for the other person. We needn’t make our forgiveness conditional to the other person’s seeking it, but we should certainly make our trust conditi...

Not Feeling the Bliss? Here’s the Cure
Not Feeling the Bliss? Here’s the Cure

By Sri Nandanandana dasa

Sometimes I hear devotees say that they have been chanting Hare Krishna for thirty or forty years or more, and are still waiting to feel the taste for it, or the ecstasy from chanting, or from doing devotional service. I even heard where some devotee workshops were saying that it is not uncommon that devotees do not feel this bliss even after years of chanting, and that sometimes people leave the movement because they don’t feel the higher taste. They did not get what they expected. But the cure for that is clearly explained.

Over the years modern science has speculated and researched to find out the number of species on earth, the method that main stream science has adopted is experimental which is commonly known as "seeing is believing", but without going much in detail regarding the imperfectness of this method, which is based on imperfect senses of the human being and imperfectness of the instruments developed by the human beings by these imperfect senses, it is extremely difficult to understand or gauge the vast variety of spec...

Two Essential Keys To Increase Our Attraction To Sri Krishna
Two Essential Keys To Increase Our Attraction To Sri Krishna

By Sacinandana Swami

Our greatest problem is that we have turned away from Krishna. This one action has turned into our existential dilemma. We are lost servants. But strangely we think, at least unconsciously, that it is Krishna who has abandoned us. Only when we become eager to meet Krishna again, and serve Him with body, mind and heart – as eager as a drowning man is eager to breathe again – can we attain our spiritual success. Real love, however, will only flow when we move out...

My Arjuna Moment
My Arjuna Moment

By Ananda Vrindavanesvari Devi Dasi

There comes a time, sometimes regularly, where we may feel, Oh, Krishna. I can’t do this anymore. This ‘this’ will be different for everyone. It happened to Arjuna in the Gita – he wanted to give up, not to fight, and go off to the forest to be alone. He did not want to deal with people and life’s problems. He told Krishna: I’m not fighting, I can’t do it, I can’t see the point, better if I don’t act and move to the side. If it can happen to Arjuna, who had ev...

I am a devotee of Krishna and have been one for the past several years. I am also of Indian origin, and my story is a typical one. I have been living in North America since I was nine years old. My parents came here to complete their higher education, and upon completion of their doctorates, they decided to settle down in this, their adopted country. As the family grew, came careers, households, mortgages, etc. Along with this material, success came several perplexing questions: How to relate to a materialistic western society without losing Indian values; how to bring up children here a...

“A person is not considered a great sage unless he disagrees with another sage”. This adage suitably describes the career of La Mettrie, whose contentious writings during the eighteenth century were almost universally reviled by his contemporaries during the age of the Enlightenment. Even Frederick the Great, who afforded him protection and patronage following his banishment from France and Holland, declared that one could attain peace of mind by not reading La Mettrie’s works. Notwithstanding the general distaste with which they were met, the ideas he espoused have proved long ...

“I do not have to pay?”

Even when I joined, at that time, the Sunday feast was still fifteen incredible preparations. I mean absolutely incredible. Every single one of them was like, “Whew!” You know, I mean the rice was loaded up with cashews and paneer balls and what not. Oh! What to speak of the other preparations. Everything was ecstasy. There was abundance and nobody paid. It was all for free. The guests would just come and would eat to the max.

Thus, we have dubbed him the ‘Jewel of Devotion’ (Bhakti Ratna).

Life Doesn't Come from Matter

Srimad Bhagavatam 2.10.34
Alachua, Florida
September 26, 1994

From the modern viewpoint, the universe is made of matter, which by nature is non-living. Then life occurs as a by-product, but only under very particular circumstances. The Bhagavat Purana (Srimad Bhagavatam) takes a very different stance: the entire cosmic manifestation is “life oriented”. Sadaputa Dasa (Dr. Richard L. Thompson) highlights this outlook with the famous experiments of Sir Jagadish Chandra Bose on the sentient nature of plants.
